Bianca & James Rix

Way back on October 4th 2004, we opened the doors of the Fox & Hounds for the first time – our son was just a few days old. This year we celebrated not only his 15th birthday but also the Fox & Hounds’ anniversary.

After years of James working in other people’s restaurants in London, we were determined to open our own place outside London. Months of searching led us to Hundson, where we found an empty and run down pub – the Fox & Hounds. We had a vision of what we wanted to do and the Fox & Hounds was the perfect starting point!

The building had been empty for a couple years and it took a few months of hands-on refurbishment while Bianca was heavily pregnant. We’d always dreamt of opening our own restaurant and the Fox & Hounds has been a labour of love from the start – from sanding down tables to designing the kitchen.

We are grateful to everyone locally who has supported the business over the last 15 years from our staff, customers and suppliers. From the start we had an amazing builder and decorator recommended to us, and also the help of supportive local friends and family drafted in for odd jobs! We now employ 5 full-time and 8 part-time members of staff.

We’re still very much a family business and live upstairs with our children. It’s been a long 15 years! James is in the kitchen every day developing new dishes and seasonal menus. He feels like he drives the team crazy by always pushing up standards and evolving the menu. We have had some tough times but some great ones too and we look forward to continuing to serve our customers for a more years to come.

Bianca manages the front of house team. What sets us apart is that it’s our home as well as our business which has enabled consistency and a hands-on approach to running the business. Customers love to chat to us about where we have been eating out on our day off and how the kids are doing. 

We are looking forward to the future – who knows what the next 15 years will bring but for now we will continue to drive the business forward and keep doing what we do best.
